The Need for Expert Medical Advice

Posted June 9, 2007, by drLove

When I think about your question Natural remedies for toddler ear infections?, it reminds me of the pyramid idea of health. The lower "fat" part of the pyramind is exercise, nutrition, rest, sunlight, etc. Things that we do to prevent disease. The next layer consists of things like natural therapies. The higher up you go in the pyramid, the more medical expertise you need. This type of expertise does not come from a Holonation member nor from the entire Holonation community. It comes from people who have spent years of study in order to expertly give advice and administer useful treatments like medical doctors, nurse practitioners, chiropractors, naturopathic doctors, dentists, surgeons, etc. It comes from one on one individual patient care that can only be properly assessed and diagnosed in a healthcare clinic.

More to the point of the pyramid idea ... true, the clinic that has seen all sorts of different patients with similar symptoms is in the best position to assess a new situation. However, I suspect a useful "second best"approach is to seek info from all of the patients treated by that clinic. This is the Holonation approach. In the glorious future, there will dozens if not hundreds of Holonation members with children who had ear infections, and they could share their approaches that worked for them (many of which probably came from a clinic). Amongst all the sharing, some useful truths should emerge. This is "Wisdom of the Crowds" in action.
