The Intuitive Wisdom of Kids

Posted May 16, 2007, by drLove

To peter, concering your Question Info on the need for toddler's to eat meat, I completely agree with your wife. It's so wonderful that she trusts your child to determine what her own needs are. She is relying on the intuitive wisdom your daughter was born with. The beauty of this is that your wife is teaching her that she is her own best expert. What a gift.

I assume that the foods that are placed in front of your child are healthy to begin with. Just like most parents would not put a porno DVD in for their children to watch, most parents (with knowledge regarding transfats, glutamate and refined sugar) would not place foods that deteriorate health in front of their children for them to choose from.

I personally believe animal protein is crucial for excellent health. There are some really healthy vegetarians, but they are few and far between. Meat protein easily contains all of the essential amino acids that are crucial for liver detoxification, neurotransmitter production and hormone regulation. In a world where stress is the major culprit of disease, meat protein is a good friend.

Also keep in mind that the quantity of meat that helps someone become optimally healthy is very individual. Some people require very little to achieve optimal health, and some people require much more.

Thanks for your answer. I agree that kids probably have intuitive wisdom about healthy choices put in front of them. But America is full of parents who don't do that. Anyway, I feel better about the meat issue. Thanks.
