Fear is the Root of Anger

Posted March 25, 2008, by drLove

When trying to let go of anger, there are many approaches.  One approach is to shift your focus completely onto something you find peaceful, whatever that may be.  Examples include prayer, walking in nature, meditating, etc.

Another approach may be to try to understand exactly why you are angry and what are the beliefs you have surrounding your situation.

Why are you upset that your mother went to Hawaii? and you did not?  What does that mean for you?

Keep asking yourself questions and each time you answer each question, ask yourself another one.  Ask these questions in a loving and accepting way. Ask until you feel you understand what is at the root of your anger.

Often, people will find that the anger is a surface emotion, and underneath, are fears that we all share as a human race.

The fear of being alone.  The fear of not being able to care for ourselves.  The fear of death.  The fear of being rejected.  The fear that the universe is not acting in our best interest.  The fear that the universe is an unfriendly place.  The fear of the unknown.

What I do in the meantime, as I am sorting through my own experiences of anger, I take a Bach flower remedy called Rescue Remedy frequently throughout the day.  I pray a lot.  And I try to understand what it is that I am believing which I am angry about, and whether the belief is serving me.

I wish you well.  Anger is a very tough emotion.  A person once described anger as "emotional suicide", because it feels like acid eating out our heart.

Good luck.  You will be in my prayers tonite.
