How-to: Praying for help

Posted March 12, 2007, by drLove

Whether our back is up against the wall or we're bumping into a wall over and over again, sometimes we could use a little help.

Ingredients:

  • a challenging problem you are currently facing
  • your desire to stand on higher ground (feel more loving and more peaceful)
  • your understanding of peaceful surrender
  • a belief that you are part of something larger (universe, God, infinite wisdom, unlimited goodness, - whatever fits for you)

Steps:

  1. Close your eyes.
  2. Either outloud or silently ask the universe/God/infinite wisdom (whatever you believe in), to help you stand on higher ground, to be more loving, to feel more peaceful.
  3. When you do this, you will experience either a subtle or dramatic shift in your resistance to your problem.  Notice the shift from sadness, anger or fear, to peaceful surrender.
  4. After you feel this surrender, this time, ask for help with your specific challenging problem.
  5. Take in a deep breath, then let it out slowly.
  6. Believe that the universe has your best interest at heart and that everything happens for your benefit.
  7. Believe that your prayer will be answered.
