How-to: Writing Up Your Will Without a Lawyer

Posted June 11, 2007, by drLove

Do you have a will? Did you you know that if you are a Canadian citizen and you are married, what you leave behind does not automatically go to your spouse? If you die without a will, the government has one for you that you may not like. I am not a lawyer. I'm a regular Joe who had a 21 year old outdated will. I wanted to fill out a simple will without going to a lawyer.

Ingredients:

Steps:

  1. Click onto the site mentioned above.
  2. Become a member.  It's free.
  3. Download the instruction will kit and document will kit.  It's free.
  4. Print off the instructions and the document.
  5. Read the instructions and fill it out.
  6. Fill out the date when you have 2 witnesses ready to sign.
  7. Place your documents in a fire-proof box.

This site also guides you through filling out the Enduring Power of Attorney and a Living Will so that your loved ones know your wishes in the event that you succumb to a vegetative state.
