Answer to: Splitting nails on my child

Posted March 27, 2008, by drLove

What do you mean by splitting? Flaking? Cracking down the middle vertically? Usually in children, the nails flake and peel off easily. This is a mineral deficiency. It could be one of many minerals, or a combination of minerals. Calcium (and vitamin D) is the most common. It could also be Silica. At times, it is indirectly a mineral/vitamin deficiency because of what the child is eating, like refined sugar, processed foods, food allergens, etc. It would be helpful to see a naturopathic physician in my opinion, just to maximize your child's health.
