Truth

Posted November 3, 2008, by kim

Who am I? I am a nurse at Cambridge hospital and a fellow classmate of Peter's from Preston Highschool. I have found this site enlightening and uplifting and have truly appreciated reading the stories of your life from both yours and Peter's perspectives. It seems with the busyness of this world most people are just too busy to spend time discussing what in my opinion really matters. These are life changing events which provide  opportunity to change and grow and see life from a richer vanatage point, and when these stories are shared the value of that experience is multiplied.Furthermore, when we are honest within the framework of our stories the biblicle principle that the truth shall set us free has opportunity to prevail and provides healing for writer as well as the reader. So from my heart to yours a humble thank-you.

Kim

ps.You may remember my Dad as principal at W.G.Davis.

Funny you mention her name . I was at a memorial service today for a high school friends' Mom and Mrs.Bermonts name was brought up. As we reminisced my friends felt that I unjustly received great marks in art because my Dad was the principal and that my work was actually not that great at all. Oh well what can I say.It never hurts to have a purple and pink lady on your side. The painting you painted for Dad was the Doon Tower ( I'm not sure if that is the right name for it). My Dad is Mr. Steckley.

MRS. BERMONT!!!! That was Mrs. Purple & Pink's name. It was bugging me all morning long.

I think there were 2 teachers I gave paintings to at W.G. back then. One was to Mrs Purple and Pink, whose name is on the tip of my tongue. She wore everything purple and pink - even her makeup. Her grey hair was even tinted a purple colour. And another one was to Mr. Robertson (I think that was his name), who I never had as a teacher, but who asked me to paint him a picture.

That probably would have been me. All of us 3 kids painted, but I was the one that gave them all away, mostly to teachers. I won quite a few awards in grade 8. Pete did also, but he stopped painting long before then. What was the artwork about? Was it landscape? or flowers in a vase? Now that's going way, way down memory lane.

Spoke with my Dad today and he remembers your family, and told me there is a painting in their home created by someone in your family. He expressed his appreciation for the artwork and then it was later given to him.Do either of you remember this? Whoever painted this picture also won the Yates award that year according to my Dad's memory.

Thank you again Kim and drLove. I'm heartened that someone other than my sister (drLove) shares the view that "when these stories are shared the value of [the] experience [recounted] is multiplied. Furthermore, when we are honest within the framework of our stories the biblic[al] principle that the truth shall set us free has opportunity to prevail and provides healing for writer as well as the reader". Couldn't have written that any better. This site needs significant revamping on how it works (not on the wonderful stories -- they're great just as they are). One of the first things I'll do in this revamping effort is update the "About" page and include this quote from you. It captures what this site is all about.

Very, very cool. I mailed Pete yesterday and asked him if he could check for me where "kim" was from. For some reason, I thought somewhere in California. Wow! Right from our old stopping grounds. You probably know my sister-in-law and step-sister-in-law since they both work as nurses at Cambridge too. Keep your stories coming!! They're great.
