I admit it. I am a rip roaring closet dancer.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I love going to organized public dances and moving my body to the beat of the music.
But at home, I really, really, really love dancing. No one's watching me (except for my family on occasion, who already think I'm over the top). I crank up the tunes, then I just let my body go into exaggerated movements and physical expressions. It's really quite freeing.
When I dance to my favorite music, I feel energized, exhuberant, healthy and I feel like I'm experiencing a piece of heaven.
In fact, people think I'm a little bit looney when I tell them that I love cleaning my house. I love scrubbing toilets, washing dishes, doing laundry ..... all because I have my favorite tunes cranked up and I'm dancing while I'm doing these chores.
If I'm scrubbing the floors, I'm on my hands and knees, scrubbing with a rag on the floor to the beat of the music, with my hips swaying back and forth. I'm sure it would look odd to someone who was observing this sight, but it sure feels wonderful!!!!!
My most favorite songs to dance to are "Stay" by the Four Seasons, "It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls, (okay, don't laugh) "Ring My Bell" by disco queen Anita Ward, and "Sway" by every artist I've ever heard sing this song.
Music and dance are universal languages. You don't have to be an expert. (My family is not shy about expressing their opinion regarding my lack of dancing talent). You just have to have the love of movement, the love of rhythm, and the love of melodious sound.
After that, I get on my dancing shoes (runners) and I feel like I'm "Steppin' Out ...."
Gotta admit, I do that too! When I shake it in front of our toddler, she looks at me with a puzzled expression. But soon enough, she'll be joining me.
