The Cottage and its' magic !

Posted July 26, 2009, by kim

Reflections of cottage life go back as far as I can recall. Mom and Dad built it when I was a wee babe and I knew no other place to spend the summer but by the lake. What an awesome summer life creating amazing summer memories to hold and cherish .The cottage summer job scooping icecream, flipping burgers and making golden frenchfries was a great opportunity to mix work with fun. I had that job for 7 summers and met some great friends and boyfriends. The last and best boyfriend is my husband of 24 yrs. We were married in the little chapel in the woods by the lake August 10/1985. This morning we went to the church service in that little chapel and it felt a little like going home. We spent a week at the cottage with the family and enjoyed the swims , the water sports, fishing , early morning coffee and Grandpas homemade icecream. It was a wonderful week of fun.

The passage of time  includes adult children(who can drive to the cottage on their own) and teenage neices and nephews who are now doing the cottage boyfriend/girlfriend thing...... all of which should make me realize my current stage in life.Miraculously I believe the cottage holds some kind of Lake magic, because when I am there I am the little girl in the red bathing suit playing endlessly by the shore. I am the 7 yr old who learned to ski on a cold August day.I am the 10 yr old canoeing around the lake pretending I was a missionary in a third world country. I am the adventurous girl sleeping in the treehouse in the boat and any other place I could dream up that my parents would allow. I am a teenager falling in love (more than once). I am a young adult earning money by scooping icecream so I could pay for college. I am the excited bride standing outside the chapel arm in arm with my Dad. I am the the newly married girl walking out of the church with my favourite guy anticipating a lifetime together. I am a young mother watching my children learn to swim in the shallow lake front while I looked on with pride. It is a magical place of precious memories that come to life in living colour . All I had to do was go there with my heart open and the magic of the lake's waves of memories washed over me filling me with goodness , love, appreciation for each moment.
