With this post, I'm going to analyze the results of the You're the Cure liver detox program that I mentioned in the blog post Liver Detox. I began this program the morning of Monday, September 21 of this year, and ended it two weeks and 2 days later, the evening of Tuesday, October 6.
The program is meant to run for three weeks. The reason why I ended it before that is that my dad arrived at our home for his annual October visit, and my wife baked an apple pie for him. I couldn't resist. So there went the program.
Even so, with only 2+ weeks of compliance, I still believe that the program provided me with signiicant health benefits. As I've already blogged, the first such benefit -- realized on Day 5 -- was emotional in nature. I wasn't even looking for that benefit when I started the program.
The benefit that I was looking for concerned an aspect of blood pressure known as pulse pressure. As I noted in the Liver Detox post, while I have been dropping weight and body fat over the course of this year, my pulse pressure seemed to be creeping up. I took a guess that this rapid fat shedding was putting stress on my body, making my heart work harder. If that was the case, then a liver detox seemed in order for me.
Well, as of today, below is my data for 2009 for blood pressure and pulse pressure:
In the above two graphs, week 37 represents Friday, September 25, which was Day 5 of the program. Week 45 represents today. So, in the above graphs, look closely at the data for weeks 37-45. Notice anything interesting?
I do. In the top graph, I notice a declining systolic blood pressure. The bottom graph seems to show a declining pulse pressure.
Now maybe 9 weeks of data isn't enough data to show a long-term trend. But I'm certainly encouraged by these results.
I'm planning on trying this liver detox prgram again, probably in the Spring. I'll keep you posted.
