Start singing when you're scared

I'm not a person that likes speed. Excessive speed that is. When I snowboard, I love carving out the powder slowly and gently.
But sometimes I start going like a bat out of hell because of the steepness of the slope, and then I start making a kzillion turns like crazy. But sometimes, even though I have pretty decent control, I'm just a whizzin' down the hill.
Healthy caution, to my way of thinking, helps prevent injuries. On the other hand, fear that turns to panic is not helpful for keeping safe.
So my friend says to me, "If you ever feel scared when you're going fast like that, just start singing or humming because it's hard to be scared and sing a song at the same time".
"There she was just a boardin' down the hill singing doo-ah-diddy-diddy-dum-diddy-doo, she looks good, she looks fine, just a glidin' down the line...."
That tune has a whole new meaning for me now.
It does work.
Next time you feel fear, start singing or humming and see what happens. The outcome will be better than going into panic mode.

How-to: Breathing fresh mountain air
Sounds like a great idea. I'll try that the next time I'm rolling down one of the black diamond ski runs. I think I might hum the song "Papa was a rollin' stone", or maybe sing "Slip sliding away", or my favourite "Frosty the Snowman ... bumpty bump bump look at Frosty go".
