How to support an Autistic child?

Posted May 8, 2007

Hello

Does anyone have help with Autism? We have an eleven year son who is also under weight. In order to help his surpressed appetite we reduced his medication through our peditician. Over 3 months he has gained 2 pounds. Over this time period his behaviour has become aggressive at both school and at home. He even appears unhappy or depreesed. The most difficult time is in the mornings. Our mornings have become a shouting match after we have failed by asking nicely and our promptings have fallen on deaf ears. Our son now tells us to shut up and makes comments that he hates us. Getting dressed and washed is a routine argument which is followed with his refusal to go to school. We are currently in the process of arranging a meeting with his teachers, speech pathogist and a behaviour therapist to address as a group. The simple solution is to return to the increased medication but that is risky to his physical development. We have a four year old who also needs the mornings to return to calm and most of all pleasant. Life has become exhausting and we miss our pleasant boy and feel we are loosing him. Please help if you can
